Aspiring nurses struggling to fit school into their busy schedule now have a new option to consider. Lone Star College-North Harris is offering a one-day-a-week Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. The inaugural program will only accept 20 students and runs from the fall of 2010 through the spring of 2012. Applications for this new registered nurse program are being accepted now through May 20.

“We want our students to have as many options as possible to reach their goals,” said Carla Porter, counselor at LSC-North Harris. This new program offers additional flexibility for students who are trying to balance their education with family or work responsibilities. But it also requires a huge commitment and lot of self-discipline.”

The hybrid program will feature online lectures and classes throughout the week. However, every Friday during the 16-week semesters, students will attend an on-campus clinical, lab and seminar lasting from approximately 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Students in the program may work while enrolled in the program but will need to show a letter of support from their employer. The online components, while more accommodating than face-to-face classes, will cover the same material and require much the same time commitment.

Tuition and fees for the program have the same per credit hour cost as any other Lone Star College course and can be found in the system’s catalog. Additional costs may include uniforms, books, immunizations, shoes or other items.
