Don’t miss a beat of the upcoming Feb. 6 concert with Percussion One, a high school drumline and percussion ensemble that serve as “Artists in Residence” at Lone Star College-CyFair.
Bring the family to enjoy a Saturday evening of musical compositions featuring Houston area students on snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, trash cans, grocery bags, closet rods and chairs.
This concert is a preview of the P1 and P1-13 prelude performances for all five “Stomp” shows at Jones Hall set Feb. 12-14. The Society for the Performing Arts invited Percussion One to perform as a prelude to the world-class performers brought to Houston. These performances are presented immediately preceding the main stage performances and are free of charge to ticket holders.
Percussion One is a diverse group of musicians and percussionists who perform under the direction of Lamar Burkhalter, founder and executive director of the nonprofit Percussion One Foundation. Burkhalter is an active percussion educator, clinical, arranger and performer as well as music director for the NFL Houston Texans.
This talented group has performed throughout Texas in many corporate and community events and on stage with the Keith Urban Band and Shania Twain. Locally, the group’s performance schedule has included parades, church and community events, pre-game and half-time shows for the Houston area sports teams such as the Texans, Rockets and Aeros, Texas Bowl events and much more.
General admission is $8 for the LSC-CyFair concert, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Barker Cypress campus.
Tickets are available via e-mail at Info@percussionone.org or at 7 p.m. at the box office in the Center for the Arts building at 9191 Barker Cypress.
