Each year Lone Star College-North Harris acknowledges and honors the outstanding services and essential roles provided by the college’s support staff employees. Out of more than 1,000 full- and part-time employees, four outstanding LSC-North Harris staff members were recently selected to receive the college’s 2010 Staff Excellence Award.
This year’s award winners will be honored at the Lone Star College System employee banquet on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at the Woodlands Waterways Marriott. These awards recognize excellence in the areas of service and engagement.
“At Lone Star College-North Harris we acknowledge that it is the collective efforts of staff and faculty contributions that make the college so successful,” says Dr. Steve Head, LSC-North Harris president.
The 2010 Lone Star College-North Harris Staff Excellence Award honorees are: Linda Genco, division coordinator, health and human services division; Wyshunda Evans, assistant III, office of instruction; Joann Engallina, department assistant, languages and communications division; and Karen Harris, staff assistant II, Biology.
Genco has been working within the Lone Star College System for 18 years. “I started in September 1992. I love working with the students,” says Genco “I’ve had an opportunity to be a student mentor since the summer of 2001 and ‘old’ students drop by every now and then to let me know how things are going for them. It’s interesting and comforting to know that I might have helped to make a difference in their lives–however small.”
After 10 years with LSC-North Harris, Engallina said, she enjoys working with some great professors and instructors and at the same time has had the opportunity to further her own education.
Evans has worked at LSC-North Harris for eight years and has been in the office of instruction for eight months. “I like the diversity that LSC-North Harris offers to its employees. Being able to meet and help people from all walks of life is a joy to me.”
Karen Harris has been with LSC-North Harris full time for just over five years. “I started out as a student worker in the Math department and worked for one year before I was hired full time in the natural sciences division. I enjoy the wonderful relationships and family-like atmosphere. It is also a pleasure to work on campus because everyone is so friendly and helpful. I have made many great acquaintances and friendships here at Lone Star College-North Harris. I am in my senior year at OLLU, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management. I appreciate all the support and encouragement I receive from my colleagues.”
