The first student-directed Actors Workshop presentation for the 2009-2010 theatre season, Four on the Floor, will be performed on Thursday, November 19, and Friday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m.; as well as on Saturday, November 21, at both 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All performances will take place at LSC-Montgomery in the performing arts lab (Building T, Room 101).
The Actors Workshop series allow students to minimize the peripherals of sets, costumes, and lighting in order to concentrate on character development. This semester, Chase Waites, associate theatre professor at LSC-Montgomery, has been working with a variety of students to take on substantially larger roles within the workshop productions.
All performances of Four on the Floor are being produced entirely by students, most notably the theatre honors fraternity, Delta Psi Omega, which has taken on the task of producing the shows performed in The Actors Workshop series. According to Waites, almost 20 students are involved.
Each performance will feature four, one-act plays–two comedies and two dramas. The students have chosen the plays and the cast and figured out the logistics of rehearsing four plays at once.
“Students are handling all of the tasks associated with the production including budgeting, directing, and designing,” said Waites. “There is no greater teacher than experience, and these students are learning a great deal about the production side of theatre.”
The performances are designated as “pay what you will,” with all contributions supporting the theatre scholarship and program fund. Tickets are available online, along with recommended donation levels.
Tickets can also be reserved by contacting Denise Meyers, program coordinator for theatre/fine arts division, at (936) 273-7021 or mailto:Ddenise.mMeyers@LoneStar.edu.
