Lone Star College System will host upcoming Continuing Education Unit (CEU) seminars on the topics of obsessive-compulsive disorder and mediation.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Seminar
The Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder seminar will be held Nov. 20 from 9 a.m.-noon at the LSCS Training and Development Center, 5000 Research Forest, The Woodlands. The seminar will review the common treatment methods used in the field today with clients diagnosed with OCD. Participants will identify how the presence of OCD symptoms impacts a client on an emotional, behavioral and physical level.

Basic 40-Hour Mediation
The basic 40-hour mediation seminar has been scheduled for Jan. 14-23 and March 3-13. Consecutive sessions will meet for two weeks on Thur. and Fri. from 2:30-8:30 p.m. and on Sat. from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Seminars will be held at LSC-Montgomery, 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe.
This is an introductory seminar benefiting the general public and professionals in human resources, education, public safety, law, healthcare, religion, insurance, and more. Brodrick W. Hill, retired manager for the global office of ombudsman for Chevron Corporation, will serve as the facilitator. According to Hill, the training is highly interactive.
“You learn how to be a mediator,” said Hill.
“Mediators are professionals who provide an impartial third-party view to disputes that range from legal settlements to political arguments. They work outside the court system to help parties reach an agreement. You will increase proficiency in the area of effective communication, including, listening skills, negotiation, and conflict resolution.”
“During the role-play of vignettes, you will gain a greater perspective on your conflict resolution style. Completing the 40-hour Basic Mediation seminar, volunteering as a mediator, beginning the credential process with Texas Mediation Credentialing Association, and networking are steps to a career as a mediator,” added Hill.
