Lone Star College-Kingwood is preparing to offer a new Polysomnography Program in Fall of 2025.
Polysomnography is a health profession that performs sleep studies to assist in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
LSC-Kingwood will offer a 4-semester curriculum to students to earn an associate of applied science degree. It will be only the third college in the state to offer such a program.
Former students Analisa Martinez says she chose Polysomnography because she wanted a career where she could directly help people improve their quality of life.
“Helping a patient reduce their respiratory events through effective therapy is an incredibly fulfilling experience and reaffirms why I pursued this field. Sleep is a crucial part of overall health, and being able to identify and treat sleep disorders brings me a deep sense of reward and purpose.”
There are more than 85 types of known sleep disorders. PSG technologists record and monitor brain activity, muscle and eye movement, respiration, and blood oxygen levels to determine treatments best suited for patient care.
“I was hesitant at first to start something new that I’d never heard of before,” shared Rianna Pajarillaga. “But it is such an underrated profession that has been so rewarding and good to me! I’ve met so many amazing people along the way that have graciously guided me to my current position at Texas Children’s Hospital. My instructors have been the MOST encouraging, supportive, and knowledgeable at what we do and honestly, I couldn’t have imagined a smoother transition to this role without them. I am so grateful to have taken this leap into the Polysomnography program and highly recommend others to do so too!”
