LSC-Tomball lifePATH® Special Olympics Team to Host Area Four UIL Special Olympics Basketball Championship and Compete at State Games

LSC-Tomball 2025 Special Olympics team qualifies for State at the Special Olympics regional games.

TOMBALL ( Jan. 14, 2025) – The Lone Star College-Tomball lifePATH® Special Olympics College Club flag football and basketball team will be going for gold at the 2025 Special Olympics Texas State Games. The team will also host the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Area Four Special Olympic Basketball Tournament at LSC-Tomball.

Jonathan Medved, an LSC-Tomball lifePATH® student, and flag football player, expressed excitement and confidence after his team qualified for State at the regional games.

“We have been practicing for a few semesters,” said Medved. “The relationships on our team are good. We encourage each other to keep going and never to give up. I was proud to win at regionals, and I’m excited to go to State.”

The LSC-Tomball team of ten will participate in the flag football competition in Houston, which will host over 1,000 athletes, from February 28 to March 1. They will also compete in the basketball competition at various Cy-Fair Independent School District gyms on Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22.

The LSC-Tomball Special Olympics Texas College Club has been selected to host the 2025 Region Four UIL Special Olympics Texas Basketball Tournament Championship Game. The event will take place on February 6, at 5 PM in the LSC-Tomball Fitness Center. The game will feature the champions from Aldine and Houston ISD.

For Jayden Terrando, an LSC-Tomball lifePATH® student who will graduate in May, participating in the Special Olympics has been a good experience. He plans to continue his winning streak at State.

“It’s a good feeling to lace ‘em up, compete, and feel the adrenaline rush,” said Terrando. “At State, the goal is to win. We don’t want to come home empty-handed. We plan to bring home the hardware.”
