Lone Star College-Montgomery’s (LSC-M) National English Honor Society, Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD), is proud to have announced the successful conclusion of their 5th Annual Sock Drive, which accumulated approximately 400 pairs of socks for those in need. The collected socks were donated to the Salvation Army Shelter in Conroe, Texas, demonstrating LSC-M’s continuing commitment to community service and support.

The SKD Chi Beta Chapter hosted a sock collection initiative during October/November at LSC-M, with the support of students, faculty, and staff. The Drive was coordinated by SKD advisor and Prof. of English, Ron. Heckelman.

Donation boxes were set up around campus to encourage LSC-M community members to contribute socks for those in need, as socks are among the most requested items at shelters. The Chapter proudly delivered the generously collected socks to Lt. Amanda Johns, co-director of the Salvation Army Shelter. This donation will provide significant warmth and comfort to individuals and families who rely on the shelters.

“The most impactful part to me was the service and provision to the less fortunate,” said Timothy Day, SKD Student President. “My greatest takeaway was the theme of servicing my community, regardless of how 'small' it may seem. Socks have always been one of the greatest assets to the homeless and impoverished. I had a great time working with my fellow Officers, Advisors, and the Lt’s of the Salvation Army.

Hailey DeHart, Vice President of SKD, shared her thoughts on the experience, reflecting on her involvement with the Annual Sock Drive. “Giving back to the community isn’t just about donations; it’s about connecting with those in need and showing them they matter. Being a part of the SKD Sock Drive has really opened my eyes to how even the little things such as socks can make a huge difference to someone's life. Every time I would go check the sock boxes we had stationed around campus; it would make me so happy to see how quickly they were filling up knowing that these socks are going to put a smile on someone's face."

LSC-M is dedicated to giving back to the community by supporting those in need. Through initiatives like the annual sock drive hosted by the Chi Beta Chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta, the college emphasizes the importance of providing basic necessities to members of the community. Their ongoing efforts aim to make a positive impact and assist individuals facing hardships.
