HOUSTON (Dec. 18, 2024) – Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) will begin offering paralegal studies in Spring 2025, making it the second Lone Star College (LSC) location to offer the program. Previously available only at LSC-North Harris, the American Bar Association-approved program prepares students for rewarding careers in the legal field through a comprehensive curriculum and hands-on training. First-time students can pursue the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Paralegal Studies, while those with a completed degree may enroll in the Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) in Paralegal Studies.
A standout element of the LSC-University Park program is its fully functional courtroom. This dedicated space serves as an invaluable educational resource for both the paralegal studies and criminal justice programs, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Samantha Ward, director of the LSC Paralegal Studies Program, envisions the courtroom being used for mock trial competitions and litigation courses.
“We are proud to offer the paralegal studies program to our students, providing them with the tools needed to pursue meaningful careers in the legal field,” said David Gaer, dean of instruction for behavioral and social sciences at LSC-University Park. “The new courtroom gives students the opportunity to engage directly with current legal practices, ensuring they are well-prepared for professional environments in Harris County and beyond.”
The courtroom practicum at LSC-University Park offers a distinctive advantage for students seeking immersive learning experiences, setting the campus apart in its commitment to student success. Designed to mirror a professional legal setting, the courtroom allows students to develop essential skills such as courtroom appearances, fact investigation, legal document preparation, witness interrogation, and trial processes. This experiential learning environment aims to equip graduates with the knowledge and confidence to excel in both public and private legal sectors.
