Lone Star College-Online graciously accepted a $1,000 donation from the Taekwondo Varsity League, (TVL) during its fall 2024 Convocation. This donation was made to support students who may need assistance with educational costs.

“We understand that Lone Star College-Online offers a flexible learning environment, which is ideal for students balancing various responsibilities and commitments, including those involved in Taekwondo or Martial Arts who are traveling all over the country, and the world, to compete. Lone Star College-Online lets them continue their education,” said Vincent Nguyen, TVL president.

This specific donation will go toward scholarship opportunities for students pursuing degrees related to business, management, or health-related fields. These programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in various business environments.

The TVL, located in Conroe, is an organization of former elite taekwondo athletes who partner to provide monetary assistance to high school students with college and business aspirations. TVL hosts events and tournaments to raise money for taekwondo athletes for both college and athlete scholarships to help offset any expenses they may incur while pursuing their Olympic Dreams, including costs related to traveling away from home and event registration fees. Since 2018, TVL has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships and awards to support these athletes in their dreams.

"The Lone Star College-Online team is incredibly honored and grateful that the TVL has chosen our students to benefit from such a generous donation,” said Laura Bettencourt, Ed.D., LSC-Online interim president. “We applaud them for seeing a need, not only in the taekwondo and martial arts community but throughout our broader community. We are excited to partner with them to increase opportunities for high-quality and flexible higher education.”

To apply, interested Lone Star College-Online students should go to Lonestar.scholarshipuniverse.com and answer a few questions to see which scholarships are available. Scholarships are a type of financial aid that does not have to be paid back.
