LISN starts new chapter at LSC-East Aldine Center

The Latina Inspira Student Network is beginning a whole new chapter…at a whole new campus.

The student organization will now have its own chapter at Lone Star College-East Aldine Center. It’s also the center’s very first student club.

The purpose of the LISN is to nurture support among Latina women in college – and all women – while guiding them in personal growth and building bridges with communities.

“We are very excited to bring Latina Inspira to our campus,” said Emily Silva, who is the President of the East Aldine chapter. “It’s a really good opportunity for all of us.”

LSC-Kingwood President Dr. Melissa Gonzalez, along with Maria Baños Jordan, President and Founder of the Texas Familias Council, are the co-advisors of the LISN on the Kingwood campus.

“We feel it’s so important for our young women and men to participate in their communities by volunteering, but also so many activities that nurture personal growth and service as well as personal development and academic success,” Baños Jordan remarked. “Very much a blessing to the community.”

Alejandra Cruz and Denisse Garza are the co-advisors for the East Aldine chapter.

“As a first-generation student and graduate of MacArthur High School and an EAC student, I would have loved to join a club like this at the East Aldine Center,” Garza shared. “As a social work student, I often view challenges through a different lens. Just like a cake requires the right ingredients to rise, our club aims to provide the essential elements and resources for personal and professional growth. Each member brings their unique ingredients to the mix, creating a rich and supportive environment where we can all rise together.”

East Aldine Center Dean Tippetts echoed those sentiments.

“Establishing a new chapter of the Latina Inspire Student Network at East Aldine Center is a significant milestone. As the first club on campus, it represents an opportunity to foster community, support, and empowerment among our students.”

“Community is crucial for us, which is why we will be actively engaged in volunteering at events that not only strengthen our bonds but also give back to the neighborhoods we cherish,” said Garza. “I’m truly excited for the positive impact this club will have at our center, creating an empowering environment where we can all thrive together."
