If you’re looking for a fulfilling career working with patients on a personal level and a quick way into the workforce, look no further than the Dental Assisting Program at Lone Star College-Kingwood.
The fast-track Dental Assisting Program allows you to earn an RDA (Registered Dental Assistant Certification) in four and a half months. Most competing programs are nine to 12 months long and traditionally cost two to three times more than Lone Star’s fast-track program.
“Our program has a long history of success with a 100% pass rate on the State Board,” said Dottie Lee, RDA and Dental Assisting Instructor at LSC-Kingwood. “Our instructional staff have a combined 82 years of experience in the dental field and more than 20 years of teaching experience.”
Dental assisting is considered a Workforce Program and is not eligible for traditional student loans. However, Lone Star College-Kingwood has access to benevolent partnerships and grants that may help cover costs and, on occasion, fully cover the program's cost.
“We have staff to help you apply for these grants and funds,” said Lee. “After earning an RDA, some people will choose to stay chairside, while others will use their RDA as a stepping-stone to dental hygiene school, industry product reps, employment with dental insurance companies, treatment coordinators, and other positions in the dental industry. Your success is our only goal!”
LSC-Kingwood offers separate daytime and evening programs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The day classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the evening runs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The day class is full for this fall, but there are still a few seats left for the evening class that will begin in late October and end in early 2025.
“If three days a week is a barrier for you,” says Lee, “then consider the Saturday program. This class meets once a week for a full day for eight months.”
