LSC-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery Season Opens with Painted Stories of the Immigrant Experience

mural for Bucheli exhibition
Artist Dario S. Bucheli’s exhibition "Apariciones” features captivating paintings and a site-specific mural.

Artist Dario S. Bucheli shares a personal account on the immigrant experience through captivating paintings and a site-specific mural in "Apariciones”, his exhibition on display through Sept. 26 in Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery.

In this gallery season opener, Bucheli explores the cultural, political influences that shape his experience as a Mexican immigrant in the United States. His paintings and mural work in the exhibition combine elements from pre-colonial Mexican codices with references to contemporary American politics, inviting viewers to reflect on social justice issues and the immigrant experience.

The mural created for this exhibition looks at the US-Mexico border wall as an object that occupies a distinct place in the American psyche - and compares it to a Tzompantli, which were walls made of stacked humans skulls situated on the outskirts of the Aztec city of Tenochtitlán.

Bucheli’s work has been exhibited throughout Texas and abroad in both solo and group exhibitions. He is currently Curator of Collections at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas.

Join Bucheli at the 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 opening reception for conversations about the inspiration behind his artwork, the cultural symbolism, complexity of relationships and experiences reflected in his paintings. Come back Sept. 11 for a Library Art Talk.

The fall gallery season will continue with Lauren Kussro’s “Abide”, a reflection on environmental preservation, Oct. 3 – Nov. 7 and LSC-CyFair’s Student Art Showcase, which highlights the best original works created by the college’s student artists, Nov. 21 - Dec. 6.
