Danielle Franklin Bryant and Emma Cokenour, Phi Theta Kappa students at Lone Star College-CyFair interested in careers that will help heal people, were named as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars, based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential, and have earned a $1,000 scholarship.
“The scholarship was so unexpected and will be a huge help in paying for tuition and books for the coming year,” said Cokenour, an LSC-CyFair Dual Credit on track to earn her associate degree in Spring 2025. “All of my science teachers have been inspirational women, which has no doubt contributed to my interest in biology. I am also fascinated by music therapy. My grandparents love when I play piano for them and that’s why I started to think about combining music with helping the elderly.”
Her future goals include earning a bachelor’s and master’s in biomedical engineering and, besides a career in the field of biology, her dream is to incorporate music into her work.
Bryant is also appreciative of the scholarship’s financial support to use toward achieving her educational and career objectives. With plans to graduate LSC-CyFair in Spring 2025, Bryant plans to pursue a bachelor’s, master’s and ultimately a Doctor of Sociology degree.
“My career aspiration is to become a mental health therapist and I look forward to securing internships during my college years,” she said. “Upon graduation, I am eager to impact the mental health field positively and, in the future, open my own mental health clinic.”
With 210 Leaders of Promise scholarship recipients chosen from nearly 1,500 applicants this year, Jane Hale Hopkins, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation said “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community.”
