The Lone Star College-CyFair Falcon Internship Program provides a hassle-free solution to meeting the demands of today’s competitive job market with a win-win partnership between area business owners and LSC-CyFair students.

LSC-CyFair’s Internship Coordinator Patty James will vet all the student applicants and work with the Human Resources and Recruiting teams at area companies to ensure the right candidate is matched for specific roles sought.

“Our goal is to connect companies with highly motivated college students eager to learn and contribute innovative ideas as they gain real-world experience,” said James. “Employers share their internship needs, my team will sift through the student resumes and I will pre-screen candidates to ensure a qualified talent pool for you.”

LSC-CyFair is the place to not only find top talent who will bring fresh perspectives, the latest technological skills, enthusiasm and innovative ideas to a company, but to help foster a dynamic work environment.

“I believe it’s incumbent upon businesses to create opportunities for early talent in their respective industries. It’s the only way to ensure a skilled labor force pipeline,” said James. “And our institution has answered the call as well having placed student interns in hard-to-fill disciplines across the campus.”

The Falcon Internship Program is already making a difference for Tara Murphy, a summer intern in an area congressional office who plans to become a lawyer with a focus on advocacy and legal reform.

In addition to honing her ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively, she said she learned being flexible and adaptive are also key.

“When working at a congressional office it can get fast-paced quickly and you have to be able to adapt quickly to new situations and be flexible with your approach to problem solving,” said Murphy. “This internship has provided a deeper understanding of the legislative process and how a congressional office can help its constituents.”

Other lessons she said were learned included networking is crucial; building relationships opens doors to opportunities and future resources; and effective communication, both verbal and written, is essential in a professional setting.
