LSC-North Harris Nursing Program receives $10,000 from Houston Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary
Helping to fill the critical nursing shortage, the Houston Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary continued its support of Lone Star College-North Harris’ nursing program when Auxiliary President Judy Brown recently presented a $10,000 scholarship donation to college officials.
“For more than 30 years, LSC-North Harris has received a generous scholarship for nursing students from the Auxiliary members. This year’s $10,000 gift brings the groups’ overall donations to more than $350,000,” says Dr. Bennie Lambert, LSC-North Harris vice president student services.
The college has been successful in recruiting and retaining nursing students to fill today’s high demand for nurses and other health care professionals. However, nursing courses are very rigorous and the required medical books are expensive. “That is why we are extremely grateful for the Auxiliary’s generous donation. These funds consistently help students in our nursing programs to stay committed to finishing their degrees,” says Connie Zibilske, LSC-North Harris financial aid coordinator.
The scholarship funds are produced by a dedicated group of Houston Northwest Hospital Auxiliary volunteers, who manage the small 15- by 25-foot hospital gift shop within medical center. The shop is brimming with stuffed toys, balloons, flowers, candy and other items, which–when purchased–adds sunshine and comfort to patients confined at the hospital.
LSC-North Harris offers a wide variety of allied health care programs including: associate degree nursing, LVN to RN transition, pharmacy technology, professional medical office, paramedic to RN transition, health information technology including medical transcription certification and coding certification, and emergency medical services.
