An information session about the new Post-9/11 GI Bill will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Lone Star College-Montgomery. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Building A, Room 102.
Also called Chapter 33, the Post-9/11 GI Bill is a comprehensive education benefit package available to veterans who served on or after September 11, 2001. Contessa Scroggins, veteran affairs coordinator for the Lone Star College System, will present information on the new bill, including eligibility qualifications and benefit options.
“The new GI Bill will be highly beneficial for most veterans, but it is complicated,” said Valerie Shepherd, advisor to veterans at LSC-Montgomery. Shepherd said this new bill includes a monthly housing allowance and a transfer of entitlement option for those who qualify. “We want current and prospective students who are veterans to be completely informed about this bill,” she said.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill goes into effect on August 1, 2009.
