Take a break from the summer heat to view an everyday life inspired 3D sculpture exhibition, “Growth Rings: II”, on display in Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery this June.

Brendan Flores expresses an appreciation for straight lines, symmetry and precision as a sculpture artist known for creating unique free-standing and wall-hanging 3D works.

He is a family man, an engineer by professional background, a Houston Christian University MFA student and was recently selected as the winner of the Giesey Award at the 2023 Rising Eyes of Texas show at the Rockport Center for the Arts.

Inspired by his wife as well as what he sees in daily life and nature, his artwork reflects the desire for detail, precision and constraint. He said he uses cubes hand crafted from exotic and domestic hardwoods to store thoughts, emotions, ideas and to create finished representations of his experiences.

“Brendan’s art involves a unique approach to both the medium of wood and the abstraction of his compositions,” said Matthew Backer, Bosque Gallery Lead Faculty. “His sculptures are inventive, harmonious and beautiful.”

Join the 6:30 p.m. opening reception of “Growth Rings II” June 6 to visit with Flores more about his artistic process. Then return to the LSC-CyFair campus library for a 1:30 p.m. Library Art Talk June 26 followed with an opportunity to enjoy this summer gallery exhibition, which will be on display through July 3.
