Lone Star College-Montgomery Medical Radiologic Technology (MRT) students excelled at the 93rd Annual Meeting and Educational Symposium of the Texas Society of Radiologic Technologist (TXSRT) Inc. Students from various colleges and universities across Texas competed in this prestigious event, showcasing their skills and knowledge in the field of radiology.
LSC-Montgomery students stood out from the competition, bringing home several top prizes in different categories. Evan Morris took home 1st place in the iLead Competition for his presentation on "Nanocomposite Materials Used as Alternatives to Lead Shielding in Radiographic Examinations." Erika Santos secured 2nd place with her presentation on "Captivating Software Ingenuity in MRI," while Kathrynn Carlton was successfully awarded 3rd place with her presentation on "The Role of Radiography Personnel in Stopping Human Trafficking."
In the Scientific Essay Writing Competition, Amy Broussard and Catherine Miranda tied for the 2nd place with their essays on "Artificial Intelligence and Mammography" and "Overview and Comparative Analysis of Dual Source Computed Tomography," respectively. Tanja Martin also impressed the judges with her essay on "The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology," earning her 3rd place.
Erika Santos was also recognized with the Rising Star Award, highlighting her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to furthering her knowledge and skills in the industry. Additionally, LSC-Montgomery students took home 1st place in the Radiologic Technology Tee Shirt Design competition, showcasing their creativity and talent.
The LSC-Montgomery Medical Radiologic Technology students’ accomplishments were made possible as a result of outstanding faculty dedication to academic excellence, effective student engagement, clinical education coordination, and program administration. One of the MRT faculty, Krystal Kidder, played a crucial role in encouraging the students to participate in the 2024 TXSRT competition.
The mission of LSC-Montgomery’s MRT Program is to provide a comprehensive education of structured learning experiences and to assist in meeting the community’s need for medical imaging professionals. The program curriculum effectively combines didactic and clinical education experiences to enable the student to acquire knowledge, develop medical imaging skills, professional values, and the desire for life-long learning. Graduates of our program are effectively prepared for higher than entry-level positions in the medical radiologic technology profession.
The TXSRT students’ competition demonstrated the dedication and excellence of LSC-Montgomery students in radiologic technology.
