Lone Star College-Kingwood hosted representatives from Miami Dade College last month, as part of Excelencia in Education “Community Colleges Transforming by Engaging Latino Students Pilot Project.” The non-profit group works to accelerate student success in higher education by promoting student achievement.
Miami Dade College is the coach campus for LSC-Kingwood in its partnership towards the transformation of student success.
Excelencia in Education, in partnership with Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCCSE), provided objectives for the site visits between coach campuses and participating institutions. They include sharing updates on progress, as well as providing feedback and exchanging ideas for next steps to promote student achievement.
Dr. Luis Lucio, Executive Director, Special Projects, and lead of the LSC-Kingwood Excelencia committee, said it was very exciting to have had the opportunity to host the representatives here at LSC-Kingwood.
“Their insight and expertise will allow us to pinpoint the ways we are moving in the right direction and help us identify areas of growth at our college. This type of collaboration is invaluable, and I thank our President, Dr. Melissa Gonzalez, for her continued support.”
While on the LSC-Kingwood campus, Miami Dade College staff members met with key leaders, students, and staff. They also had the chance to learn about the Mi Familia, Mi Futuro grant program, which aims to support underserved students and families in higher education.
Dr. Jaime Anzalotta, Vice Provost of Student Affairs and Chief Enrollment Office for Miami Dade said they were grateful to the team at LSC-Kingwood for their hospitality.
“The team at Lone Star College- Kingwood is passionate, committed, and driven to continue to provide transformational strategies and interventions for student success! We are indeed changing lives one student at a time!"
The LSC-Kingwood committee also traveled to Miami Dade’s campus for a site visit.
“The day was filled with learning, storytelling, and sharing best practices that support student success and development,” Dr. Lucio remarked. “We’re grateful to Excelencia in Education and Miami Dade College for continuing to raise the bar in support of our students!”
