An estimated $100 million in scholarships goes unawarded each year in the U.S. mostly due to a lack of applicants. Scholarships make attending Lone Star College even more affordable, helping to reduce student debt and allowing students to focus more on their studies without worrying about paying for college.
“Many students think they don’t qualify for scholarships, but the truth is that many do,” said Gerald F. Napoles, Ph.D., LSC vice chancellor, Student Success. “There are numerous scholarship opportunities out there to help pay tuition and we can help you find it.”
Scholarships are awarded on various criteria, usually reflecting the values and purposes of the award donor. Scholarships can be based on merit, need, demographics or career focus.
“One big benefit of getting a scholarship is that they do not have to be repaid,” said Shannon Venezia, Ph.D., LSC senior associate vice chancellor, Financial Aid. “Searching and applying for scholarships can be time-consuming for many students, but our trained staff is ready to help them find a scholarship that’s right for them.”
Last year, LSC Foundation awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships to over 2,500 students and nearly $1 million in program and emergency support to Lone Star College students.
“We are thrilled to work with the Lone Star College Financial Aid office to help students find scholarships from Lone Star College Foundation,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director.
