Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) is proud to host the Texas High School First Responder Competition on Feb. 24, 2024, uniting top talent from across the state in a rigorous showcase of future first responders. Organized by the Texas Public Service Teacher Association (TXPSTA), this competitive event will bring together nearly 400 students and advisors from 33 schools, placing first through third in their regional competitions to earn their spot in this statewide event.
The competition will feature 22 different events, testing skills critical to law enforcement, firefighting, corrections, legal and emergency medical services careers. "TXPSTA competitions are crucial for providing practical experiences essential for excelling in first responder roles," said Frank Rios TXPSTA president. “The competitions are an invaluable opportunity to foster the dedication of these young talents. The future is bright for all criminal justice students."
Participants will engage in various individual, team, and specialized team events, such as Building Search, Cell Extraction, and the Fire Agility Course. These events are designed to test the participants and highlight the comprehensive training and dedication required to succeed in first responder careers.
LSC-University Park President Virginia M. Fraire, Ph.D., emphasized the collective effort behind the event, "This is not just a competition; it's a testament to our commitment to educational excellence and community safety. We're inspired by the collaboration across numerous LSC departments—including our Police Department, Fire Academy, Police Academy, Criminal Justice Department, and the many other LSC-University Park departments who helped prepare our campus for this competition."
Volunteers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, Tomball Police Department, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice will also be on hand to contribute event’s success.
The TXPSTA is committed to advancing Law and Public Service education through high-quality instruction and hands-on training, preparing students for the challenges they will face in their future careers.
