Lone Star College earns government budgeting award

LSC-System Office, The Woodlands
Lone Star College recently earned the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Budget Presentation Award for fiscal year 2024.

Lone Star College undergoes annual operational reviews to provide a transparent look into its financial situation. LSC recently received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Budget Presentation Award for how well the college manages and communicates its budget to stakeholders and the public.

“Receiving this award demonstrates that Lone Star College has followed best practices in budgeting for a governmental entity,” said Kristy Vienne, Ed.D., LSC vice chancellor, Finance and Administration. “A great deal of work goes into the budget development behind the scenes and it’s great to receive an award that recognizes our hard work and accomplishments.”

GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award in 1984 to help state and local governments prepare budget documents that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting. LSC earned the GFOA award in fiscal years 2022, 2023 and now 2024. Additionally, the college also received a clean audit for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

“Audits are normally thought of with a negative connotation, but I always encourage our teams to look at it as having a fresh set of eyes on our internal practices to evaluate how we improve our accounting and budgeting practices,” said Vienne. “Successful results show that Lone Star College’s financial practices are sound, aboveboard and transparent to all stakeholders.”
