Course Description (Fitness for Life I & II / Weight Training I & II)
This is a cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength training course in which students participate in a self-paced awlking, jogging, cycling or strength and conditioning. The course includes an introduction to facts, concepts, and application of wellness principles, such as nutrition, diet, and weight control.
Course Objectives
1. To learn the basic conepts of wellness
2. To develop lifelong exercise habits
Orientation
All students registered for any of the sections listed must attend and complete the orientation. Orientation will include a detailed overviwe of the course syllabus, including expectations and student responsibilities.
Health Risk Waiver Agreement / Medical History
All students registered for any of the sections listed must have a completed a health risk waiver, Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and completed medical history form onfile prior to using the Wellness Center. If you answer positively to the PAR-Q, or are over 40 years of age (male) or over 45 (female) and not received medical clearance, you must consult with your physician prior to starting the program.
ADA Statement
The Lone Star College System (formerly NHMCCD) is dedicated to providing the least restrictive learning envrionment for all student. Dress Code
A dress code has been established for the Wellness Center. This is for your comfort and safety as well as the protection of the Wellness Center equipment. The Lone Star College-Montgomery Welness Center dress code includes the following:
* Athletic shoes (tennis, jogging, walking, aerobic, etc.). Shoes must be closed-toed and closed-heeled.
* T-shirt and athletic or jogging shorts or pants are required.
Absolutely no street clothing is considered proper attire (i.e. cufoffs, denim shorts or pants, pants or shorts with buttons, zippers, or belts). Wearing inappropriate attire may result in your being asked to leave the Wellness Center.
Student Check-in and Check-out Procedures / IDs
It ist he responsibility of the registered student to check himself/herself in and out of the Wellness Center. Your attendance and workout time are recorded using your ID. Student IDs are made available at the Student Activities desk. Lost or replacement IDs will cost $5. You can only check in to the Wellness Center three times without your ID, after that you will not receive credit for any workout until antoher ID is purchased. Once you have forgotten your ID six times, you can not workout in the Wellness Center without a Wellness Center ID. You must sign your daily log at the front desk to verify your workout for the day. If you do not sign your initials when you finish your workout or if you do not sign out, you will not receive any credit for the workout on that day.
Attendance
Students are permitted to use (unlimited visits) the Wellness Center during any of the posted hours of operation (maximum of 1.5 hours for credit per day). Grades are partly based on the number of total hours a student participates in physical activity at the Wellness Center over the course of the semester. (See Grading Scale and Requirements.) It is recommended taht students keep a personal record of dates and times of workouts to avoid attendance discrepancies.
Exercising Outside
Credit students are not allowed to workout outside for credit. You cannot be outside for any reason; you must either be in the weight room or participating in a fitness class. If you are caught outside for any reason, all of your credit time for that workout period will be deducted.
Racking Weights
All weights must be re-racked in the designated area (there are signs on each weight tree specifying each weight size and number of weights). Failure to re-rack your weights in the proper location will result in no credit time for that workout.
Cellphones
If you are taking a KINE class, cellphones are not permitted in the Wellness Center. If you have a cellphone with you, it must be turned off and left in your bag or locker. You are not to be on your cellphone while you are working out for credit.
Food and Drink
No food and/or drinks are permitted in the Wellness Center. Water in a closed container is allowed in designated areas.
Personal Items
Students are encouraged to use the available locker room facilities. Please do not leave any valuables (i.e. jewelry, wallets, purses, etc.) in lockers or unprotected. At the end of each semester, remove all items from the lockers by the posted date. Any remaining locks will be discarded and lockers reassigned. The Wellness Center is not responsible for items left in lockers. The Wellness Staff will not accept responsibility for watching or handling personal items. LSC-Montgomery and the Wellness Center or any of its staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Tobacco Products
No tobacco product use is permitted in the Wellness Center.
Age Limit
LSC-Montgomery students are welcome to use the Wellness Center. If you are not enrolled as LSC-Montgomery for credit classes, you must be at least 18 years of age to use the Wellness Center.
Child Care
The Wellness Center does not provide nursery or child care services. No children are allowed in the Wellness Center facilities. Please do not bring your children.
Towels
The Wellness Center does not provide towels. You must provide your own shower towel and your own sweat towel to wipe down the equipment when you are finished with your workout. Paper towels and Gym Wipes are provided in the workout areas.
Note: no longer attending class does not constitute withdrawal from the class, nor does a studne'ts notification to the instructor that the student wishes to be dropped. Failure of a student to fill out a "Schedule Change Form" to officially drop this class may result in a grade of "F."
