FIP Resume Requirements

Resume Format Requirements

All resumes MUST be in the official format and contain:

  • Current GPA
  • Field of study
  • Estimated graduation date
  • Link to your LinkedIn profile

Do not modify the format in any way, including:

  • Changing fonts
  • Modifying the design (adding borders, text boxes, columns, design elements, etc)
  • Changing the order of sections
  • Adding your home address or a headshot

Why do we require this strict format?

Our resume format is based on feedback from employers in order to provide them with the quickest and most effective snapshot of each applicant. By streamlining the recruiting process in this way, we are able to reduce the burden on the employer - which leads to more opportunities for students.

How To Write Your Resume

To create your resume, you can download the official template here and edit it.

Writing Tips:

  • Follow the official format exactly, or your resume will not be approved.

  • All resumes must be approved before being shared with employers. It is typical for resumes to need to be edited several times before final approval. Do not wait until the last day to apply to a position, because your resume may not be approved in time.

  • If you have not yet found a specific opportunity you wish to apply for, your resume will be a generic - but detailed - overview of your skills and qualifications. Once you have identified a specific internship you would like to apply for, you are strongly encouraged to modify your resume to fit the job description.

  • If you graduated from high school within the last year, you may include high school information in your education section. If you graduated more than a year ago, remove it.

  • Only include information that is relevant to your field. For example, if you are seeking a finance internship, do not include CPR certification.

  • That being said, work experience or extracurriculars that demonstrate valuable qualities such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and initiative are always relevant. Include team sports, volunteer work, and significant projects.

  • Do not include expired certifications or licensures.

  • Never assume an employer will take anything as implied, be it a basic skill (such as Microsoft Office), standard coursework (such as Business Communication if you are a communication major) or job duties (such as assisting customers if you worked retail).
