What is Energy Systems Technology?
Energy Systems Technology is the application of mechanical, electrical, and petroleum manufacturing technologies in the oil and gas industry. Energy Systems Technicians work in the field completing highly technical tasks requiring specific knowledge, skills, and certification.
Courses in the Energy Systems Technology Program provide training in
- hydraulics/pneumatics
- DC/AC circuits
- petroleum instrumentation
How do I become an Energy Systems Technician?
Field Service Technician Level 1 Certificate
The road to becoming an Energy Systems Technician begins with obtaining your Field Service Technician Level 1 Certificate. This certificate prepares students to install and maintain industrial service equipment, instrumentation, controls, and electro-mechanical systems. These certificate classes are offered at LSC-University Park, but also at LSC-North Harris and LSC-Cypress Center.

Energy Systems Technology Level 2 Certificate
The next step in becoming an Energy Systems Technician is to obtain the Energy Systems Technology Level 2 Certificate. This certificate prepares a student to enter the industry as a technician in support of electro-mechanical, petroleum, and manufacturing technologies. The Energy Systems Technology Level 2 Certificate classes are shown below. With the exception of the physical education elective, these classes are only offered at the LSC-University Park campus.

Associate of Applied Science Energy Systems Technology
Students have the option to continue on and round out their certifications with a few college level courses to earn an Associate of Applied Science Energy Systems Technology degree. The Energy Systems Technology AAS prepares a student for entry into the oil and gas industry with an emphasis in drilling and the supporting systems needed for the completion of oil and gas wells. These classes are also offered at LSC-University Park but may also be offered on other Lone Star College campuses.
