Success Strategies for FTIC Student Persistence in a College Success Course
Carol Weller, Adjunct Faculty EDUC
Student success courses (SSC) have emerged as a promising strategy to increase the retention and successful completion rates of community college students (Kimbark, Peters, & Richardson, 2016). Specifically, enrollment in and successful completion of a CSC is associated with the chances of students persisting from fall to spring and retention from fall to fall (Zeidenberg, Jenkins, & Calcagno (2007).
This presentation will include suggestions for resources and strategies to improve the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) that are tracked every semester. The focus will be on student engagement in and completion of the academic planning and enrollment process. How these particular SLOs connect with the EDUC 1300 course objectives and topics will be discussed. These success strategies can be applied in fully-online, hybrid, and face to face environments.
