Student Spotlight

Lone Star College-North Harris is proud to feature the accomplishments of our students through testimonials highlighting their experiences on campus. Our fall campaign features real students from all walks of life at different points in their academic journey. From workforce to university transfer students graduating with their associate degree, LSC-North Harris is helping students find their place every semester!

David White, Associate of Applied Science in Robotic-Automated Manufacturing Technology, Class of 2023

David White never imagined he would be pursuing a career in robotics. He knew that he always loved solving problems and knowing how everything works. After graduating from high school in 2020, White originally wanted to pursue a career as an engineer. Once he enrolled at Lone Star College, he changed his mind and decided to change his major to Robotics-Automated Manufacturing Technology. The course schedule at LSC-North Harris worked perfectly for White. He completed his courses in August 2023, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Robotic-Automated Manufacturing Technology, and had a job offer within a month.

Kristina Easiley, Associate of Arts, Class of 2023

Kristina Easiley made the most of her time at LSC-North Harris. She was the Student Government Association Vice President, and the President of both Earth Alliance and PSI Beta. Since her long-term goal is to earn a Ph.D. in psychology and open her own practice, it was important for Easiley to do something for her fellow students. In Spring 2024, the Peace Room, which was conceived by Easiley, was officially opened. The Peace Room was designed to offer students a tranquil place on campus where they could relax. This was part of her vision to provide the campus community with a valuable resource for fostering mental well-being and inner peace.

Andrea Fraire, Associate of Arts, Class of 2024

The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Andrea Fraire is not only a first-generation college student, but the first in her family to graduate from high school. Before joining the LSC-North Harris family in July 2023, Fraire spent five years working with non-profits where she served community members who had basic and educational needs. Fraire is in the middle of her journey and knows that she has found the right place for herself at LSC-North Harris. It is a place where she can grow educationally and professionally, while being able to work with and inspire others.

Phuoc Hung Nguyen, Associate of Arts, Class of 2021

Phuoc Hung Nguyen made the most of his time at LSC-North Harris by getting involved early and often to build his skills as a leader. As an emigrant student from Vietnam, Nguyen improved his English and learned about American culture through the friends he made as a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, Student Ambassadors, Brother 4 Brother, and other campus groups and organizations. After graduating, Nguyen is continuing his academic journey at Texas Christian University.

Jessica Thrift, Transfer Student, Music

Jessica Thrift enrolled at LSC-North Harris with a simple goal in mind – get her core classes out of the way and transfer to a four-year university. Along the way, Thrift’s passion for music continued to grow in the Music department, where she found some of her closest friends and an environment that helped everyone thrive as a student and as a person. The scholarship opportunities provide Thrift a path to set the foundation for her academic journey as she began classes at St. Thomas University this fall.

Annette Douglas, Accounting

The challenges of being a mother and taking classes at LSC-North Harris weren’t enough to scare off Annette Douglas. The resources available to students guide Douglas along the way as she works towards an associate degree in Accounting. The ability to build a schedule with online classes ensures that Douglas doesn’t have to miss a moment with her family.

Bobbie Taylor, Bachelor of Applied Science

It didn’t matter that Bobbie Taylor already had a job and more than 20 years of experience as an electrician when she enrolled at LSC-North Harris, looking to better herself. The flexible class schedules allowed Taylor to continue working while earning her Associate of Arts degree in Electrical Engineering, but she didn’t stop there. Taylor took the next step and is now a student in the new Energy, Manufacturing, and Trades Management bachelor’s program.

Javier Lopez, Welding Technology

Javier Lopez came to the LSC-East Aldine Center with the goal in mind to earn his associate degree in Welding Technology so he could enter the workforce quickly with the skills he needed to land a quality job. Along the way, Lopez has had the college’s guidance as a Promise Scholar. With the help of the leadership and staff, Lopez remains focused on completing his coursework.
