Win A $1,000 Scholarship!
Lone Star College invites all students enrolled at LSC-North Harris, CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology, and LSC-Health Professions Building to enter the Lone Star College Foundation’s Chancellor's Essay Contest. The theme of the essay is “How my Lone Star College experience has influenced my life.” Winning essays will be judged on expressive writing style, grammar, form, and inspiration/student success.
HOW TO ENTER: All contest entries must include the following details in the body of the email:
- Student’s full name and Student ID number
- Residential address
- Email addresses - both personal and school
- Telephone numbers - day and evening numbers
- Attach the essay in a MS Word document (not to exceed two typed pages, properly formatted and double-spaced).
EMAIL ENTRIES: Once all the data noted above is included, email essay entries to Diana Cooley at Diana.M.Cooley@LoneStar.edu.
EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Please list “Essay Contest (insert student’s name)” as the subject title of the email.
DEADLINE: Thursday, October 31, 2024 by 11:59 p.m.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or hours required by their Health Occupations program) in credit classes at one of the schools listed below and have earned their high school diploma or GED.
- LSC-North Harris
- LSC-Health Professions Building
- CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology
- Students must be working towards their first degree or credential.
- Must meet Satisfactory Academic Policy.
- Students should apply at their “home” campus or where they take the most courses.
- Prior winners are not eligible.
WRITER’S GUIDELINES: The theme is “How my Lone Star College experience has influenced my life.” Essays should highlight how the student’s educational experience has shaped and directed his/her life. The submission should not exceed two typed pages (doubled-spaced).
FINALIST:
- Two finalists will be selected from each campus.
- Each finalist will win a $1,000 scholarship and a certificate of recognition from the Lone Star College Foundation. The scholarship is to be utilized during the student’s next full-time semester, preferably Spring 2025, for tuition, books and fees. No recipient can receive funds after Spring 2025 unless prior arrangements have been made with the LSC Foundation.
- The Chancellor and LSC Foundation will select one student from each campus to read an abridged version of their essay at the Chancellor’s Donor Appreciation Lunch in Spring 2025.
- Finalists must be able to commit to two 1-hour rehearsals prior to the luncheon.
- Finalists may also be asked to participate in other Lone Star College events.
- All finalists will be invited to the Chancellor’s Donor Appreciation Lunch and may bring a guest, however only the selected students will be speaking.
