Dr. Michael Chavez, Vice-President of Student Success

Michael ChavezDr. Michael F. Chavez possesses 20 years of experience in community college higher education. He received his doctorate at New Mexico State University in Higher Education Administration. Recently, he completed a second master’s degree in Business Analytics from Syracuse University. Dr. Chavez has held various leadership positions in student services and instructional services at colleges such as Arizona Western College, Alamo College, Midland College, and Lone Star College. Dr. Chavez is currently the Vice President of Student Success at Lone Star College—Montgomery.

Dr. Darrin Rankin, Vice-President of Student Success

Darrin RankinDarrin Q. Rankin has committed his life to serving and empowering others.  Those who know him best will tell you that he lives by the motto, “to whom much is given much is required.” With a tremendous love for students, Dr. Rankin’s professional passion focuses on student advocacy regarding educational access, student success and completion.
Throughout his accomplished career which spans nearly three decades, Dr. Rankin has demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing varied needs throughout his community, as well as the educational, personal development and enrollment-related needs of students-which includes assuring access and success for first-generation college students and those students traditionally under-represented in higher education. In addition, Dr. Rankin is passionate regarding diversity in higher education. He believes and advances diversity as a strategic asset to be leveraged to improve organizational outcomes and the human condition.

Dr. Rankin is not your typical college administrator. He is also a respected and published scholar. He has presented his work in places like, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Beijing, China-where he presented at an international research symposium at the prestigious Guangxi Normal University in Guilin China, on African American Males and Education in the 21st Century.

He has served a total of 8 institutions, in the span of 30 years of higher education experience, serving the LSC-Kingwood campus for nearly 9 years in the executive role of vice president- while simultaneously teaching as an adjunct professor. Prior to LSC-Kingwood, Dr. Rankin served as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Dean of Students at a Catholic four year institution, Marygrove College in Detroit. While in Detroit, he mobilized students and partnered with local community organizations that led Detroit’s City Council to declare March 13 or 313 (the city’s official area code number) as an official day of peace and love for the troubled city.

Dr. Rankin attended Delgado Community College, in New Orleans. He completed a Jesuit education, earning with honors, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in New Orleans and a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis in Student Services Personnel from Syracuse University, and finally, earned the Ph.D. degree in Higher Education Administration from Research University, Jackson State University.  He also studied in 2006, at The Abby in Pontlevoy, France and Dr. Rankin is a noted 2001 alumni of the distinguished Harvard University IEM program, where he was a Bush Hewlett Fellow.

Jamie Posey, AVC Office of Student Success and Completion

Jamie PoseyJamie Posey has 15 years of experience in teaching, educational leadership and administration. As the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Student Success and Completion at Lone Star College, Jamie oversees college-wide processes related to admissions, enrollment management, advising, and entry services. Jamie also serves as the Pathways lead for Lone Star College and facilitates the Texas Completes cadre of seven colleges committed to student success and completion. Before her role as Associate Vice Chancellor, Jamie also served in roles related to dual credit, P-16 and college readiness. Jamie has an MBA from Texas A&M University – Commerce and a BBA from Eastern New Mexico University.
