Karen Jones
LSC-Montgomery Staff
I was born in the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. I moved to the USA after I graduated from high school, to pursue my higher education degrees. I first attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Mathematics. I then moved to Washington, DC where I received my Master of Science in Public Relations Management from The American University.
After completing my degrees, I returned to Trinidad and Tobago where I began my career in the Computer and Software industry. I returned to the US after I married in 2007. I then embarked on my journey to become a US Citizen and was sworn in in August 2015. This significant milestone in my life occurred during Barak Obama’s presidency.
I joined the Lone Star College community in 2009 where I have enjoyed being part of Maverick Country and the Student Success Division. It has been my passion and pleasure to serve our LSC-Montgomery students in several roles: the Coordinator for New Student Orientation, the Manager of Student Life and more recently as an Academic Transfer Advisor.
I have also served on various committees that address special Student and Employee initiatives at LSC-Montgomery: Member of the LSC-Focus System Steering Committee; Member of the International Education Advisory Committee; Campus Committee Team member for Black History Month; Member of the Board of Directors for the Leadership Development Alumni Association.
“Black History Month is a time of the year that we celebrate the contributions and significance of the many members of the Black American community. My wish is that sometime soon we are able to celebrate these Americans every month of the year.”
