Course Description

Survey of meteorology and related science, which explores concepts and principles of meteorological processes; including clouds and precipitation, local and global circulation, air masses and fronts, vertical structure of the atmosphere, sever weather systems, forecasting and modeling, air pollution, and climate change.

Prerequisites

MATH 0308 or higher; College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the composition and structure of the Earth's atmosphere.
  2. Understand how energy transfer affects weather and climate.
  3. Discuss the causes and effects of air circulation on Earth.
  4. Understand cloud formation and various forms of precipitation.
  5. Identify and describe various atmospheric hazards.
  6. Discuss weather monitoring and forecasting and their importance to society.
  7. Understand Earth's climate, it’s past evolution, and future forecasts.
  8. Describe the scientific method and how it applies to meteorology.
  9. Analyze and report data by interpreting meteorologically related maps, figures, and graphs.
  10. Quantitatively evaluate the atmosphere and how it functions to produce a wide range of meteorological processes and weather phenomena.
  11. Demonstrate collection, interpretation, and reporting of meteorological and climate data.
