AAT Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AAT core complete?

Yes.  The AAT has a different core curriculum than an AA or AS degree, but it is still considered core complete by the State of Texas.

Is the AAT transferrable?

Yes.  According to THECB, the AAT is core complete and 100% transferable to public universities in Texas.

I already have a bachelor’s degree in another field, but now I want to teach.  Is the AAT right for me?

No.  If you plan to become a fully certified teacher in a Pre-K-12 school setting, consider completing the Alternative Certification program instead.

If you wish to work with infants, toddlers, or in a Montessori setting, contact Professor Laura Dupree to discuss the most appropriate path to reach your goals.

Does completing the AAT make me a certified teacher?

No.  The AAT fulfills the freshman and sophomore requirements of a bachelor’s degree.  Transferring your AAT degree to a 4-year university and completing the junior and senior year coursework is required by the State of Texas to become a certified teacher.  However, completing the AAT does qualify you to work as a paraprofessional under the supervision of a certified teacher.
