    This course is designed to prepare students for English 0309, Integrated Reading and Writing II.  Topics include applying active reading strategies and facilitating sentence and paragraph writing.  This course integrates Developmental Reading I (ENGL 0304) and Developmental Writing I (ENGL 0306).  This course carries institutional credit but will not transfer and will not be used to meet degree requirements. This course may be used to fulfill courses ENGL 0304 and/or ENGL 0306.  Prerequisite: Placement by testing
  • (page 235) ENGL 0309 - Integrated Reading and Writing II   - New course beginning fall, 2012. Clarification:
    This is a combined lecture/lab, performance- based course designed to develop students’ critical reading and academic writing skills.  The focus of the course will be on applying critical reading skills for organizing, analyzing, and retaining material and developing written work appropriate to the audience, purpose, situation, and length of the assignment.  The course integrates preparation in basic academic reading skills with basic skills in writing a variety of academic essays.  This is a course with a required lab.  The course fulfills TSI requirements for reading and writing.  This course carries institutional credit but will not transfer and may not be used to meet degree requirements. This course may be used to fulfill three (3) course combinations: 1) ENGL 0305 and/or ENGL 0307 and pending department approval 2) ENGL 0304 and ENGL 0307 and 3) ENGL 0306 and ENGL 0305. Prerequisites: ENGL 0302, or ENGL 0304 AND ENGL 0306, or placement by testing, or instructor approval.
