Medical Laboratory Technician Program Outcomes

Program outcomes are used as an objective measurable tool to evaluate the program. The LSC- Tomball Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program will assure program effectiveness by adhering to the outcome thresholds established by the Lone Star College Program Learning Outcomes process in student retention, job placement rate, and credential success rate.

Student Retention

The MLT program will strive to maintain an annual graduation rate of 70% or better with greater than 10 graduate awards conferred annually.

The MLT program will strive to maintain an annual graduate job placement or continuing education rate greater than 70%.

Credentialing Success

The MLT program will strive to maintain an ASCP Board of Certification overall attempt rate of 50% within one year of graduation with a 
three-year pass rate of 75%.

PLA Opportunities

  • Students can earn two hours of college credits for PLAB 1223 Phlebotomy with:

                  *Proof of current ASCP, ASPT, or AMT phlebotomy certification, OR

                  *Proof of current CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) certification through American Association of
                            Medical Assistants (AAMA)

  • Students can earn 29 hours of PLA credit for MLAB 1101, PLAB 1223, MLAB 1415, MLAB 1311,         MLAB 1335, MLAB1231, MLAB 2434, MLAB 1227, MLAB 2431, and MLAB 2401 with:

                  *MLT certification through American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

                  **To earn their AAS, students with proof of MLT certification through ASCP would need to complete
                             the general education courses in the degree plan (ENGL 1301, PHIL 2306, PSYC 2301,
                             Any College Level Math, BIOL 2404, CHEM 1405, as well as the clinical courses in the
                             degree plan: MLAB 2360, MLAB 2461, and MLAB 2462
