Workforce Solutions provides human resource services for businesses and residents of the 13-county Houston-Galveston Gulf Coast region and helps employers solve workforce-related business problems and area residents build careers. WFS operates multiple community-based career offices called Workforce Solutions Centers to help residents get a job, keep a job, or get a better job – offering placement, career counseling and scholarships for training.
Eligibility is based on income level. Individuals who have been laid off, are receiving unemployment benefits, and are in need of training to enter the job market are also eligible. They must pursue one of the training programs listed on the Gulf Coast Workforce Board’s High-Skill, High-Growth Occupations list.
Applications, eligibility and scholarship awards are handled on an individual basis at one of the Workforce Solutions Centers. If approved for training and awarded a scholarship, the student will return to a Lone Star College campus with a service voucher in the amount of the scholarship. A Lone Star College Workforce Scholarship advisor will enroll them in classes, award tuition payment, and issue vouchers for approved training related expenses such as books, supplies, uniforms, tools, and immunizations. These advisors will also explain other program requirements.
