Lone Star College-University Park Drama Department delivers laughs with Neil Simon’s romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park

The Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) Fine Arts Division continues to bring captivating performances to the local community. The drama department's recent production of the romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon is no exception.

The two-weekend run of the show wrapped up on Sunday. The play, directed by adjunct drama professor, Shannon Uphold, was a near sell-out the first weekend and drew rave audience reviews.

The production featured the talented performances of students Gabriel Quiles as Paul Bratter and Armida Montemayor as Corie Bratter. The play tells the story of newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter as they navigate married life in their tiny, expensive New York apartment.

"We were thrilled to bring this iconic production to our community. Gabriel and Armida were fantastic in their roles," said LSC-University Park Director of Theatre and Drama Professor William Grayson. "Their performances brought the characters of Paul and Corie to life and kept audiences laughing from start to finish. The entire cast and crew did a wonderful job."

Looking ahead, the drama department is gearing up for its next production, the beloved musical "Pippin" from the book by Roger O. Hirson. Auditions are underway for the show currently, which will take place April 20-23 and April 27-30, 2023.

"We are delighted with the success of Barefoot in the Park. Our theater program, and all our programs, strives to provide high-quality productions that entertain, inspire, and engage our students while creating a more robust campus life along with adding exceptional value to our community," said Jonathan Anderson, LSC-University Park Arts and Humanities Dean. Overall, our mission of access, success, and culture provides a high-end collegiate educational experience for our entire Northwest Houston community."
