Lone Star College-Montgomery Announces Staff Excellence Award Recipients

Lone Star College-Montgomery recently honored four staff members with the 2013 Staff Excellence Award. Katie Halbert, Angela Kane-Pigg, Christopher Moore, and Martha Neely have all been recognized for their contribution to student success.

“Our staff members are instrumental in guiding the students and meeting their needs from outside the classroom,” said Dr. Austin A. Lane, president of LSC-Montgomery. “Our campus depends on these leaders in excellence, and we’re proud of their hard work and dedication to the students of our college.”

Martha Neely serves as the program coordinator for continuing education. Splitting her time between LSC-Montgomery and Lone Star College-Conroe Center, Neely manages a number of programs from entry-level ESOL and GED to workforce certificates in health occupations or welding.

“I enjoy the variety of the programs and the different people I interact with on a daily basis,” said Neely, who has been working at the college since 2004. “Being able to help people make a positive change in their lives through education is what motivates me every day.”

Neely serves as a spokesperson through Lone Star College System’s partnership with Univision and “Es el Momento.” She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Spanish at Sam Houston State University, with plans to graduate this fall.

Another recipient is Angela Kane-Pigg, division coordinator for the business and social sciences division. Prior to coming to LSC-Montgomery, Kane-Pigg worked in the prison system for 15 years as a human resources manager, case manager, and parole officer.

“I joined LSC-Montgomery because of the positive atmosphere and the fact that I get to work with students,” said Kane-Pigg. “I truly enjoy coming to work each morning.”

Kane-Pigg holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is currently enrolled in LSC-Montgomery’s certified public accountant (CPA) program.

Also recognized as a Staff Excellence Award winner is Christopher Moore, a general clerk who takes care of the mailroom and inventory of assets for the entire campus. He’s been with the college since 2003.

“The college has meant a lot to me and my family,” said Moore, whose wife is a 2008 graduate of the college’s nursing program. “I really enjoy my job and all the people I work with. It’s like one big family around here.”

Finally, the fourth recipient is Katie Halbert, interim program coordinator for health occupations. Halbert serves as the main point of contact for students, faculty, and staff regarding the health profession programs.

“I assist students with program information and the application process for the health profession programs,” said Halbert, who also serves on several college committees. “I started my college career at LSC-Montgomery, and it was a great place to go to school. So when I was searching for a career, I knew it would be a great place to work.”

Halbert recently completed her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Sam Houston State University. She began working at LSC-Montgomery in 2010.
