Lone Star College System gets prestigious marketing awards

HOUSTON (Nov. 18, 2011) – Lone Star College System won 15 prestigious Medallion awards as part of the annual meeting of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations District 4 held last month in Dallas.

The Medallion awards are given for excellence in marketing, advertising, publications and public relations in 44 creative categories. The LSCS Marketing and Communications Department won awards in 10 different categories, and LSC-Montgomery and LSC-North Harris were recognized in five others.

NCMPR is an association of marketing, communications and public affairs departments of public two-year community and technical colleges. District 4 is a six-state region that includes Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. There are two divisions within NCMPR, A and B, dependent upon the size of the schools.

“We’re extremely proud of the fine work being done by members of the marketing and communications teams at Lone Star College,” said Ray Laughter, vice chancellor of external affairs.

Laughter presented the award-winning entries to the LSCS Board members as part of the regular board meeting last month.

Many of the LSCS entries – including billboards, radio advertising and newsletters – have been seen and heard by members of the LSCS community as part of ongoing marketing efforts.

The gold awards included for LSCS: in the Academic Catalog category – the 2010-11 academic catalog; in the Electronic Class Schedule/Catalog category – the LSC flipbook; in the Website category – the LoneStar.edu website; in the Radio Advertisement, Series category – a radio/PSA series about reputation enhancement; in the Print Advertisement, Single category – a print ad in Greater Houston Partnership’s publication about economic growth; and in the Postcard category – the LSC-University Center at Montgomery New Year’s Resolution postcard.   LSC-Montgomery won gold in the banners and outdoor media category along with news articles and logo.

Silver awards for LSCS included: in the Print Advertisement, Series – Vype magazine ads; in the Online Newsletter category – the LSCS chancellor’s online newsletter; and in the Wildcard category – the LoneStar mobile website. LSC-Montgomery also received silver for novelty item and LSC-North Harris was recognized in the postcards and promotional video categories.

Finally, the LSCS bronze Medallion awards won included: in the category of Banner and Outdoor Media – Houston Rockets Signage; and in the category of Computer Generated Illustration – a t-shirt design used for a LSCS open house event. 

With more than 75,000 students in credit classes for fall 2011, and a total enrollment of more than 90,000, Lone Star College System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and the fastest-growing community college system in Texas.
