Luby’s Restaurants is becoming the ‘top chef’ at Lone Star College-Montgomery. Beginning this fall semester, Luby’s will solely operate the campus retail food and beverage service, as well as the catering services needed for on-campus meetings and special events.

“We’re very pleased to begin this exclusive partnership with Luby’s to provide a variety of food options for our students,” said Dr. Austin A. Lane, president of LSC-Montgomery. “As a college, we hope that even in their dining experience, our students, staff, and faculty will have a comfortable environment to engage with one another.”

The retail food and service beverage center, currently known as the LSC-Montgomery Café, serves students, faculty, and guests of the college in the dining area in The Commons (Building A). As part of the collaboration, Luby’s will also operate The Campus Grounds, the coffee and ‘grab-and-go’ snack bar open in the lobby of the Library & Classroom Building (Building F).

To provide a delicious and delightful dining experience, on-site chefs will prepare and serve fresh-baked breakfasts, hot lunches, sandwiches and salads, pizza, light refreshments, refreshing beverages, and decadent desserts. In addition to providing the highest quality of food service, Luby’s will also revamp the dining area.

“Luby’s will make improvements by renovating the dining and food service area, painting, adding new signage, and upgrading some of the existing equipment,” said Jim Taylor, vice president of administrative services at LSC-Montgomery. “Overall, this partnership will enhance the on-campus dining experience for students.”

The contract with Luby’s was signed in July. Renovations will be completed in August in time for the start of the fall semester.

LSC-Montgomery is the second campus in the Lone Star College System to partner with Luby’s. The first, Lone Star College-University Park, which is located on State Highway 249 near Louetta Road in Houston, has been using Luby’s for exclusive food and catering service since January.

The association between Luby’s and the LSCS marks the first official collaboration between Luby’s and an institute of higher education.

“We’re very excited that Luby’s has become the partner choice for LSC-Montgomery and LSC-University Park,” said Bill Carroll, director of culinary services for the LSCS. “This is a huge development for the entire college, and Luby’s has the facilities and space at both campuses to do a lot of great things.”

During the fall and spring semesters, the main dining area is open to students, faculty, and staff, as well as the general public, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and The Campus Grounds coffee shop is open Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Friday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
