Open Auditions for Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Production of Rent on May 26

Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Center for the Arts is calling all high school and college students, as well as community members, to audition for the summer production of Rent on Wednesday, May 26, at 4:00 p.m., on the mainstage theatre (Building D).

Those auditioning should prepare 16 bars of memorized upbeat music from Rent (or another pop/rock musical), bring sheet music with them to the audition, and be prepared to learn a brief dance combination. An accompanist will be provided.

Those selected for the cast and crew must enroll in Drama 1120 (Theatre Practicum). Community members can register for continuing education credits.

“We expect the top-notch talent in the area to come out in droves to be a part of this performance,” said Chase Waites, director for the production. “We are very excited to be producing this riveting musical since this production will truly showcase all that our department has to offer.”

The Tony Award-winning musical Rent, by Jonathan Larson, is a frank, relevant rock opera showcasing young people figuring out life. This production is for mature audiences only, as the musical contains sexuality, language, and situations of an adult nature that may be considered offensive.

Performance dates are scheduled for Thursday, July 8, and Friday, July 9, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, July 10 at 2 p.m. Individual tickets for this performance are $10 (general admission), $7 (seniors), and $5 (students).
