Lone Star College-Kingwood will host an Open House next week for prospective students and their families, to showcase all the educational and workforce opportunities within the college.

The Open House will take place Tuesday, April 9th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Conference Center.

A ribbon cutting will also be held for the College Access Center, which is a renovated space shared by the TRIO and Mi Familia, Mi Futuro grant programs.

TRIO grant programs Upward Bound and Student Support Services (SSS) are outreach and services programs designed to identify and provide services for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and help them successfully complete their educational goals.

Mi Familia, Mi Futuro is a Title V grant program provides personal, targeted support through informational workshops, mobile outreach, and now, a resource-filled College Access Center.

Imee Villareal, Manager of Mi Familia, Mi Futuro, says the grand opening of the center represents the culmination of collective efforts in removing barriers for students and families.

“Historically, many have faced obstacles in accessing the resources and support necessary to navigate the complexities of the higher education landscape. But as we unveil this center, we mark a significant milestone in our commitment to equal opportunities and access.”

The College Access Center will provide activities such as Career and Certification chats, financial aid bingos, ESOL information sessions and College Student Support orientations.

LSC-Kingwood President Dr. Melissa Gonzalez will do the honors for the ribbon cutting at the College Access Center. There will also be information sessions about the grant programs, games, and refreshments. The ribbon cutting will take place at 4:00 p.m. in APA (Administrative & Performing Arts Building) in room 200.

During the Open House in the SCC, students will have a chance to visit program booths, attend presentations on college basics, tour the campus and meet faculty and staff. Food will also be provided.

The College 101 presentations are at 4:15 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.
