Lone Star College is honored to be one of a select few academic institutions invited to participate in the Community College of the Air Force's (CCAF) General Education Mobile (GEM) program.

Through LSC's participation in the CCAF GEM program, Air Force and Space Force personnel can complete up to 15 semester hours of general education requirements that may be applied directly to a student’s Associate in Applied Science degree at the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) and/or Lone Star College.

Typically, the final 15 semester hours most CCAF students need to complete in order to earn their AAS degree are the five general education courses that include: Writing Skills, Oral Communication, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Term Length/Start Dates

How To Enroll

  1. Airmen and Guardians must contact their local base education office for an Air Force or Space Force Tuition Assistance briefing
    Your education office counselor will explain how to create a CCAF education goal and apply for Air Force or Space Force Tuition Assistance (AF/SF TA)  in the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC) in the AF Portal in order to utilize the GEM Program.
  2. Complete the Lone Star College Application
    If you are not currently a student with Lone Star College, you must apply to Lone Star College.   Call 281-290-2806 for assistance.
  3. Register for Courses
    Select from the list of GEM approved Lone Star College courses, found on the Lone Star College’s GEM landing page.  Access the Lone Star College 281-290-2806 system to register for your class. LoneStar.edu/Registration
  4. Apply and Submit Tuition Assistance Form(s)
    Request AF/SF TA online in the AFVEC.   When prompted to "Select School" select Lone Star College and when prompted select the appropriate GEM course.  Once your TA has been approved, email a copy to LSC-GEM@LoneStar.edu
  5. Order Your Textbooks and/or Course Material(s)
    You can search/locate required textbooks for your courses at a campus bookstore.
