Description: In this course students increase proficiency in the writing skills necessary for basic personal and academic communication. Students use process writing techniques to write simple paragraphs and gain mastery in the use of the basic structures of the language.
Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to
1. Write sentences using conjunctions and the progressive tenses.
2. Use pre-writing devices (e.g., brainstorming, outlining, drafting) to compose paragraphs with topic
sentences and sufficient support.
3. Write well-organized paragraphs (topic sentences, support, and conclusion), in several rhetorical modes such as descriptive, narrative, and process, using simple and compound sentences.
4. Edit paragraphs holistically ascertaining there is a beginning, middle, and end with relevant topic sentences and no irrelevant sentences; basic punctuation rules followed; fragments and subject-verb agreement mistakes corrected.
