The Art Department is led by the following faculty members:
 
JAMES CAMPBELL, Professor of Art/Art History, Department Chair

Professor Campbell teaches multiple lecture courses including Art History 1 (Prehistoric to Gothic), Art History 2 (Renaissance to Modern) and Art Appreciation.  He also offers Honors Art – Special Topics on alternative years (Censorship in the Visual Arts, Mythology & Art, Figurative Deconstruction in British Art, Indigenous Art in Canada, Surrealism & Identity, Rebel Artists from the Contemporary Scene:  1962-2022)
 
Prior to becoming the Department Chair in 2020, Professor Campbell was the director of the Bosque Gallery for 5 years. He curated three exhibits: Metamorphosis, Reverie & Muse and Salty. Professor Campbell currently oversees the Student Art Procurement Committee and facilitates the monthly Tea+Art+Talk series in collaboration with the Harris County Library-CyFair. He also moderates the bi-annual Intersections with Art round table discourse with faculty from multiple disciplines.
 
Professor Campbell has taught at various venues throughout Harris County including Houston Community College, the University of St. Thomas, the University of Houston – Downtown and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts.

RENEE JUSTISS, Professor of Art/Drawing & Painting, Faculty Lead - Studios

Renee Justiss is a Professor of Painting and Drawing at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair.  She obtained both Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in studio art with an emphasis in painting while attending Marywood University’s art program located in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  In addition to this education, she also studied abroad for several months at Studio Art Centers International (SACI), located in Florence, Italy. 

Professor Justiss’s achievements include exhibiting and selling her artwork nationally and internationally, and partaking in a wide variety of professional art and design projects.  She has experience working in a diverse assortment of media and techniques, both classical and contemporary. Her current interests include combining illustration and painting through mixed media processes.


MATT BACKER, Professor of  Art/Art History, Faculty Lead - Bosque Gallery

Professor Backer holds a master’s degree in Art History and has recently received a second masters in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Houston-Downton.

In alternative spring terms, Professor Backer teaches Honors Art History. He also offers Professional Development Summer Workshops related to Pedagogy. He has taught Art History and Art Appreciation classes at Lone Star College-CyFair since 2009. He has published articles about American 20th century art, and he has shown his artwork at Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery and elsewhere.

As the Lead Faculty for the Bosque Gallery, Professor Backer oversees the Artist Exhibition Selection process and curates several of the 7 annual exhibits. He has established an ongoing collaboration with 12 area high schools in CFISD for annual senior student shows each May.


KELLEY EGGERT, Associate Professor of Art/Ceramics

Kelley Eggert is a sculptor who currently teaches Ceramics and Art Appreciation but has also taught Two-Dimensional Design and Three-Dimensional Design. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Akron and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Florida where she received the prestigious University of Florida Alumni Fellowship. Kelley arrived in Houston for a 12-month Artist-In-Residence at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. She served on the board of Clay Houston from 2016-2019 and has taught as an adjunct across Houston before receiving a professorship at Lone Star College CyFair where she presently teaches.
 
Kelley sculptural work incorporates clay with other materials to create fantastical organic forms. She hopes to spur conversation about man’s tinkering with the natural world resulting in the sixth great extinction. Her work has been published, shown across the US and has received several awards.

TROY HUECHTKER, Professor of Art/Photography

BFA, School of Visual Arts in New York
 
Professor Huechtker is a founding faculty member at the CyFair Campus. Since 2003 he has taught a variety of Photography, Art Appreciation and Two-Dimensional Design courses. He has also facilitated several collaborations with Fotofest.
 
He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of California in Santa Barbara.
 

Professor Heuchtker is an award-winning photographer and has works in private collections in New York, Wisconsin, Texas and California.
