This is a short story of how I have impacted Lone Star College-CyFair. I started here Fall 2009 as a college student taking remedial classes. I also became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ Club. We were told that the previous two semesters the average attending club meetings were 3-5 college students.

The Lone Star College System (LSCS) is an active participant in numerous local, state, national and international initiatives.

LSCS is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is scheduled for reaffirmation of accreditation

Providing Ways for you to Succeed

The Lone Star College System (LSCS) has a variety of academic initiatives designed to help its adult learners succeed and to prepare at-risk middle school make the transition to LSCS and beyond.

Achieving the Dream (AtD)
AtD is a national initiative committed to implementing best practices to help students at community colleges succeed.

Best Start
Best Start is Lone Star College's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE)
The survey examines engagement levels among students at community colleges to improve student learning and retention.

Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) - The FSSE survey explores faculty’s perception of how students engage in activities inside and outside of the classroom.

Foundations of Excellence (FoE) – The Foundations of Excellence is designed to improve learning and retention of first-year and transfer students.

Middle School to College (M2C)
The M2C program is an early outreach initiative offering free college prep workshops and mentoring, along with college scholarships, for eligible African-American and Hispanic 6th grade male students entering in the seventh grade.

Minority MALE Initiative
This initiative helps students transition from high school into the Lone Star College System, and ultimately into a four-year institution.

My Degree Counts
This initiative supports students returning to finish their credentials by assisting in re-enrolling in classes and finding the right strategy to meet their goals.

Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) - The QEP is an important and required component of the SACS accreditation process to enhance student learning and/or the learning environment through a specific set of instructional activities. The LSCS has named “Best Start” as its QEP.

Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE, a CCSSE Initiative)
A Center for Community College Student Engagement initiative that helps colleges to understand why some entering students persist and succeed while others do not.

Councils & Committees

Working Toward Success

Our councils and committees are made up of various faculty and staff that work diligently toward providing our students with the tools they need to succeed.

Academic Calendar Committee(login required)
Review issues regarding the academic calendar and develop the proposed annual academic calendar.

Council for Academic and Student Affairs (CASA) (login required)
Provides leadership and support to the colleges to ensure quality services and educational programs for student success.

Core Curriculum Committee 2009-2010 (login required)
Makes recommendations and provides advice on curriculum content (program or course) to ensure quality, currency, and relevancy.

Dean's Council (login required)
Fosters success of instructional programs and services.

Program Review (login required)
This committee examines some pre-existing sources such as the THECB reports, and some new information, including surveys of students, graduates, former students, employers and advisory committees. The review process is a joint responsibility of program and district staff.

Service Learning Committee (login required)
Identifies current service learning projects within the district.

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Committees
Responsible for overseeing the institutional review including the SACS Compliance Certification and the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

Vice Presidents of Instruction Council 
The Vice Presidents of Instruction Council is comprised of the Instructional Vice Presidents from each of the colleges and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Curriculum and Instruction. The Council provides academic leadership to all of the colleges. The focus is on providing excellent educational experiences and programs as well as fair and equitable treatment of faculty and students. The Council also addresses the need for system-wide approaches for policy development and revision and implementation for programs, services, and new initiatives.
