We recently expanded our partnership with Farouk Systems, world-renowned hair care company and official hair care sponsor of the Miss Universe Organization, to create a new CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology, adjacent to the CHI manufacturing plant on E. Richey Road.

The CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology offers certificate programs in three specialties.

  • Cosmetology Operator Certificate
  • Esthetician Certificate
  • Cosmetology Instructor Certificate

All three certificate programs are approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are eligible to take their state exam. Upon passing their state exam, program graduates become licensed to practice in the state of Texas.

Students in each of these certificate programs may also be awarded an associate degree by completing a selection of core academic classes available at Lone Star College-North Harris.

What sets the CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology apart from other schools?

We offer a unique partnership which brings the world-renowned methods and products of Farouk Systems, Inc. to the high-demand cosmetology program at LSC-North Harris and adds to the programs' 37-year reputation for excellence.

Our cosmetology courses are taught by seasoned faculty with significant experience as professional cosmetologists. They have also undergone specialized training at the Farouk Systems headquarters in north Houston and use the Farouk Systems methods, and the CHI™, Biosilk and Sunglitz product lines, exclusively, in the instruction of students.

Students will have an opportunity to develop cosmetology skills, including hair cutting, permanent waving, hair styling, manicuring, facials, hair coloring, hair-straightening and client consultation on hair care products. In addition, the school's full-service salon offers students a chance to practice their skills on clients from the community. A student enrolled in the instructor training portion of the associate of applied science  program earns the credentials to teach cosmetology.

The demand for cosmetology professionals in the Houston area has been strong. Graduates of the cosmetology certificate programs have many employment opportunities including becoming a hair dresser, skin care specialist, and make-up artist. Other areas may be to become a research assistant in the cosmetology industry, a sales representative for a beauty products, or a beauty editor for newspapers and magazines. Salaries vary depending upon the place of employment and the graduate.
