Recently the Lone Star College Foundation Board of Directors enjoyed a one-day retreat to focus on plans for growth in fundraising for student scholarships and college programs at Lone Star College. What better way to remind oneself of the impact of giving than to hear directly from a scholarship recipient? LSC-University Park nursing student Racheal Cummings kicked off the activities by offering her own personal story and message of gratitude.
"Being part of a single parent family, this scholarship relieved a great amount of financial stress," says Racheal. "If I have to take out any loans for college, I hope to not have to until nursing school."
Foundation Board Chair and supporter Carl Joiner shared that "Racheal made a real impact at our recent Board Retreat. As Chair of the Foundation and a supporter for 25 years, I am always amazed at the stories from our students on how the Foundation and College has made such a difference in their lives. Without our help, many would never have been given the chance to succeed."
Being a scholarship recipient has encouraged Rachael to not only succeed, but also to think of others, as her benefactors thought of her. "When I get my own practice," says Racheal, "I would love to open up my own scholarship program for future nursing majors or those planning to further their education in nursing."
