Long-time LSC Foundation supporter and retired LSC professor Carolyn Davis is a big believer in the American Dream and that Lone Star College plays a vital role in achieving that dream for many. "There are literally no limits to what level of education you can achieve and what goals you can obtain. And no institution does a better job, at a more affordable price, than the local community college. And no community college offers more opportunity than the Lone Star College System!" she said.
When a political science professor at LSC-North Harris, Davis saw firsthand the hard work and dedication required for students to complete their college education. However, for many LSC students, receiving that education is often put at odds with receiving proper nutrition. Every month, hundreds of students across the system visit campus food pantries and the strain on the pantries is ever present.
Along with support from college leadership, donors like Carolyn Davis are doing their part to help make a difference in these students' lives. "No Lone Star student should ever go hungry, and every student should have access to the nutritional requirements necessary for the ability to learn and excel," Davis said.
People can help students in two ways by supporting campus food pantries and donating a hot meal on campus to a student in need. Campus food pantries provide pantry items, hygiene items and other supplies while LSC's newest food program will allow eligible students to receive vouchers for free meals at campus cafeterias. Davis encourages the community's support. She continued, "My husband and I are pledging our financial help to build robust Food Pantries. Never will your donated dollar do more to help our students achieve success."
