The U.S. Department of Education awarded both LSC-North Harris and LSC-Tomball five year grants to expand educational opportunities for the traditionally underserved Hispanic student population. Lone Star College also has the opportunity to receive additional funding which is where you can help. For every dollar raised, between $400,000- $500,000 for each college, the Department of Education will match it. As a leading Hispanic serving institution, Lone Star College is in a perfect position to help this population succeed but the Foundation is asking for YOUR help to meet the challenge!
It is rare that a grant-funded program has a chance to outlive its designated time period but with your donations and match from the Department of Education, the Foundation will establish an endowment to add to the programs' sustainability. Please consider making a gift today to help tomorrow's future Hispanic leaders.
LSC-North Harris will improve this traditionally underserved population's student success rate by expanding its career counseling, increasing awareness of transfer options to four-year universities, and dedicating tutors for English comprehension. North Harris will also educate parents on the importance of higher education and utilize technology to enhance teaching inside and outside of the classroom.
LSC-Tomball will create a Center for Leadership, Academic and Student Success (CLASS) that includes technology-enhanced academic support for students, alternative course designs, and professional development for faculty and staff. The college will also focus on outreach efforts to recruit Hispanic students to science and health-related professions.
